# Define JDBC or OCI connections for BA design tools

Once you have [chosen to use a JDBC or OCI access protocol](/install/9.3-install/pentaho-configuration/tasks-to-be-performed-by-an-it-administrator/configure-the-pentaho-server/specify-data-connections-for-ba-design-tools.md), all you have to do now is install the appropriate driver so that you can use design tools anytime you want. You will specify the access protocol later when you define the data source for each design tool.
