# Starting the Pentaho Server

After you have completed the JBoss tasks, you are ready to start the Pentaho Server.

Complete the [JBoss tasks](https://github.com/pentaho/documentation/blob/main/PDIA/9.3/Install/Pentaho%20installation/Pentaho%20Installation%20\(overview%20cp\)/Manual%20installation/Manual%20installation%20process/Prepare%20JBOSS%20connections%20and%20web%20app%20servers/Prepare%20JBoss%20web%20application%20servers/Step%207%20Complete%20the%20JBoss%20checklist/Verification%20checklist%20for%20JBoss%20connection%20tasks=GUID-9D5EDE26-CCD7-4608-ACA6-AE682F5F37C0=4=en=.md) before attempting to start the Pentaho Server using this procedure. If you want to add the [optional JBoss logging](/install/9.3-install/pentaho-installation-overview-cp/manual-installation/manual-installation-process/prepare-jboss-connections-and-web-app-servers/prepare-jboss-web-application-servers/step-5-configure-pentaho-settings-for-jboss/add-jboss-logging.md), do that first and then run the appropriate script for starting your server.

1. Define the **DI\_HOME** environment variable.

   The default path for Windows and Linux is shown below:

   * Windows: `PENTAHO_INSTALLATION_FOLDER\pentaho-server\pentaho-solutions\system\kettle`
   * Linux: `PENTAHO_INSTALLATION_FOLDER/pentaho-server/pentaho-solutions/system/kettle`
2. Run the startup script for your web application server by launching one of these files in the JBoss `bin` directory:
   * Windows JBoss: Launch the `standalone.bat` file.
   * Linux JBoss: Launch the `standalone.sh` file.
3. Open a web browser and enter this URL: `http://localhost:8080/pentaho`

   The User Console Log On window appears.

   **Note:** You will be prompted to install a license. Information about license installation can be found in the **Administer Pentaho Data Integration and Analytics** document,
