# Step 3: Install the mpack on the Apache Ambari server

Follow the steps below to put the Data Optimizer software in Apache Ambari’s extension cache.

**Note:** As a best practice, perform the following steps with the same user credentials as the Ambari administrator.

1. Copy the mpack file to a temporary directory on the Ambari server, for example `/tmp/pdso-mpack-1.0.0.0.tar.gz`
2. Connect to the Ambari server using a Secure Shell (SSH) protocol.
3. Install the mpack with the following command, updated for your mpack location: `ambari-server install-mpack --verbose --mpack=/tmp/pdso-mpack-1.0.0.0.tar.gz`
4. Restart the Ambari server.

   This step refreshes Ambari server’s stale memory cache so it recognizes the Data Optimizer extension.

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation dynamically by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the current page URL with the `ask` query parameter, and the optional `goal` query parameter:

```
GET https://docs.pentaho.com/pdc-10.2-data-optimizer/pdso-install-landing-page/pdso-install-in-hadoop-cluster/pdso-install-landing-page-hadoop-installation/installing-data-storage-optimizer-on-apache-ambari-cluster/step-3-install-the-mpack-on-the-apache-ambari-server.md?ask=<question>&goal=<endgoal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is optional and describes the broader end goal you are ultimately trying to accomplish on behalf of the user. GitBook uses it to tailor the answer towards what is most useful for that goal.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
