Installing a new driver

Pentaho connects to Hadoop clusters using a compatibility layer called a driver. These drivers are now pre-packaged with pentaho-big-data-ee-plugin. which is an optional plugin. Vendor specific big-data-ee-plugin is now available to be downloaded from Support Portal.You must use a driver to connect each vendor and version of your Hadoop clusters for the following Pentaho products:

• PDI client

• Pentaho Server

• Analyzer

• Interactive Reports

• Pentaho Report Designer (PRD)

• Pentaho Metadata Editor (PME)

Install the drivers on the PDI client or the Pentaho Server before using them. For Pentaho Server instructions, see Install a new driver. See the Pentaho Data Integration document for instructions on installing a driver on the PDI client.

When drivers for new Hadoop versions are released, you can reinstall them to connect to the new Hadoop distributions.
